(At least) five reasons your kids will love Camping La Forge de Sainte Marie!

Here at La Forge de Sainte Marie, our philosophy is that holidays are about taking a step back and embracing the simple things in life: the freedom of the great outdoors, a rare chance to enjoy a different pace of life and the biggest luxury of all… time to have fun with the family. Deep down, the kids don’t need the extravagant things in life – they revel in the simple pleasures too.

Whether you’re opting for one of our camping pitches, a gîte or a mobile-home, your kids will love our family-friendly campsite. Here are our five reasons why. You know what they say, if the kids are happy, then so too are you!

  1. Making friends: Liberté égalité fraternité!

If your children love making new friends on holiday, they’ve come to the right place. Families come from far and wide for our unique brand of camping (the majority from France, the Netherlands and the UK) and when children share a simple agenda of playing, swimming, ball-games and ice-cream, they never seem to worry too much about the fact they speak different languages!

You’ll be amazed at how quickly they settle into life at La Forge, usually forgetting all about playing on their tech devices; before you know it your holiday becomes the digital detox you all needed!

  1. On site activities: do a little, do a lot: you choose!

There is so much to do at Camping La Forge de Sainte Marie, the kids will soon forget what boredom is. We have a beautiful pool (indoor so it can be enjoyed rain or shine) plus a kids’ club in high season and a games room.

More than anything else, it’s great to see children enjoying new experiences and getting stuck into some of the things they don’t get to do at home. In high season, we offer everything from the creative (crafting) to the active (archery, football, mini-disco…) as well as activities embracing our wonderful natural environment (campfires, farm visits, forest walks).

And if the kids aren’t big on group activities, there are more tranquil family pursuits to enjoy too. Play boules, help us feed the animals or embrace your inner angler; seeing your little one catching a trout is a holiday memory to cherish – just ask at Reception for details.

  1. French Food: Vive la différence!

France undoubtedly has the world’s most renowned food culture but it’s a mistake to think that only the adults will appreciate it! Here’s your opportunity to dispel the myths (snails and frogs’ legs are quite rare after all!) and get the children to try something new, whether it’s the melt-in-the-mouth croissants (don’t forget to order them at Reception the day before!), a trip to a local market or eating out at a local family-friendly restaurant.

At our own on-site restaurant, you’ll find some French favourites the kids can try as well as more familiar dishes on the Menu d’Enfants. Tonight’s kids’ choices include a Poulet-Frites or a Jambon purée avec Tomates Provençales. Bon appétit as we say in France!

  1. Learning: no textbook or classroom in sight!

Children are naturally inquisitive so visiting another country really does turn on their sensors. Everything is exciting when it’s new, from seeing nature up-close to hearing different languages on a daily basis. When it comes to languages, the younger children are, the more naturally they absorb language and at La Forge de Sainte Marie, we think we’re pretty good role models speaking three languages fluently!

Try the learn-a-new-French-word-every-day approach and get the kids to try it out with our friendly staff in the on-site shop or reception. Our little visitors soon cotton on to the fact that a little ‘je voudrais…’ is the quickest route to getting that ice-cream!

  1. Out and about: Activities for kids in the Champagne region

As if all that’s not enough – there is so much more to see and do in our region. Lots of our guests bring their bikes as there are endless cycling possibilities for older children and their parents. For example, this 33km route takes in two châteaux, a canal and the famous Lacets de Mélaire hairpin bends. Expect frequent pausing for amazing views – this area isn’t known as Little Switzerland for nothing! https://www.tourisme-hautemarne.com/portal_upload/files/randonnees/1006.pdf

For another family day out that ticks all the kids’ boxes, a little further afield, try the Lac du Der lake for watersports, lake beach and swimming, cycling and horseriding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=74&v=BZxrFHCtOek

Staff at Reception will be delighted to advise you on days-out to make sure you all enjoy the best family holiday it’s possible to have. We wish all our young guests a bon séjour!
