Haute Marne is a region of exceptional natural beauty, far from big crowds. You will find some of the quietest places in France. Less than an hour from our campsite, Lac du Der offers nice walks, to share with family or friends, to discover this beautiful part of the country.
Lac du Der
This lake, the largest artificial lake in Europe, is less than an hour away from the campsite and offers not only adventure, but also nature and relaxation. The boat crew can take for a spin around the lake, or you can rent a boat to go fishing or for a spot of bird watching. To discover nature on foot or by bike, there are 250 km of marked trails around the lake. And on the sandy beaches, doing nothing is easy!
Numerous water sports activities are available on this lake. For the more adventurous, there are jet skis for hire, and for those who prefer a more peaceful pace, there are pedalos. You can also take advantage of your day to relax on the fine sandy beaches.
Did you know ? The creation of the Lac du Der Chantecoq flooded 3 villages, including Chantecoq. All that remains is the church on the shore with a beautiful view over the lake.
Castle and gardens
The Château du Grand Jardin, in Joinville, is perfect for spending an afternoon. Stroll through the large historic Renaissance gardens.
Open all summer, Les Jardins de Mon Moulin offer an extraordinary range of flowers and plants, in gardens created with passion.
Nature walks
Only five minutes away from La Forge de Sainte Marie, a path leads you to the “Petite Suisse”. After a fairly quick climb to the top, you are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
For those who enjoy hiking, the Cul du Cerf offers a range of hikes for all levels. It looks like a vast, steeply sloping funnel with an underground river. In the forest, you can observe many species of birds and other animals. There are great places to take a break and enjoy a picnic so don’t forget your sandwiches!
For cycling enthusiasts, there are many cycle tracks nearby.
