Seven nights at La Forge, seven eating options… French food heaven!

French food and drink, as you’ll have gathered by now, has the tendency to make people deliriously happy and you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice during your stay at our five-star campsite La Forge de Sainte Marie in the Champagne region. Here are some of your eating options while you are chez nous:

  1. Enjoy French cuisine at our family-friendly on-site restaurant ‘Le Rongeant’

Guests love the buzz of our Brasserie-Bar in its beautiful waterside setting: convivial inside or classically continental out. We offer an enticing entrée + plat + dessert menu for €17.50 (plus a kids’ menu) so if toasted Langres cheese with honey, boeuf bourguignon and classic crème brûlée could tickle your tastebuds, you’ve come to the right place! And how do we know it’s good? Well, even the locals drop in to enjoy our French cuisine and savoir-faire!

  1. Get foodie inspiration from the French supermarket

The intrigue of browsing the aisles of the French supermarché has long been one of the greatest joys of self-catering holidaying in France. If you need a wider choice than our handy on-site shop offers, nearby Joinville (14 km) has a Super U and an Intermarché – plus plenty of independents besides – where you’ll find all your staples plus limitless inspiration for knocking up something new back at La Forge. On your last day with us, make the most of travelling to France by car by shoehorning French goodies into the boot for tasty take-homes!

  1. Something light on-site

One of our beautiful old Forge buildings has been converted into a snack-station, particularly handy if you just need a quick, light or easy bite. Pop in to make your order, then let our nifty buggy deliver the goods: gorgeous stone-baked pizza et al straight to your pitch. Délicieux!

  1. Foodie fixtures on our entertainment programme

You don’t get many combinations as quintessentially French as cheese and wine! Come along to one of our tasting soirées to try Chevillon, Brie de Meaux and Chaorce fromages with a Muid Montsaugeonnais pinot noir, chardonnay or rosé wine. Also, check our programme of events for the popular ‘Feast at the Farm’ event.

  1. Live like a local at a typical French market

A visit to France isn’t complete without a trip to the local market, embodying the essence of the French way of life and celebrating all that is traditional, artisanal and authentic. Follow the empty baskets and shop for the freshest local produce in Chaumont on a Wednesday or Saturday, Liffol-le-Grand on a Thursday, Joinville on a Friday or Saint Dizier on a Saturday; you won’t be disappointed.

  1. Map out your own tasting trail and find lesser-known champagne houses

Our region is renowned for its vineyards, producing the most prestigious apéritif in the world… champagne! It’s nice to find off the beaten track petits-producteurs rather than brands you find on the supermarket shelves back home, so head to nearby Maison Monial or Champagne Daubanton for a tour and a tasting. Our region produces more specialities besides: if you haven’t tried French favourites like local truffles, snails or foie gras, here’s your chance! Bring your foodie finds back to camp and have your very own dégustation (tasting).

  1. Cue the barbecue!

Glass of local champagne in hand and warming the coals, nothing beats the feeling of bringing the indoors out! Our Premium mobile homes come complete with a terrace barbecue or, on other pitches, feel free to bring your own barbecue kit. For your convenience, we sell briquettes at our on-site shop. And why not embrace your inner angler by catching a trout on our very own lake and cooking up your catch – how satisfying!

By our reckonings, you can stay with us for a whole week and dine differently every night. Bon appétit!
